I went to my first sewing class today at Jo-Ann, Sewing 101. There were 5 of us in the class, which was good, because their classroom was really small! All of us except one brought our own machines with us. The instructor went over all of the things you need when you sew (good pair of scissors, thread, pins etc.) and talked about the different kinds/types available. We went over all the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread the upper and lower thread. We did some real basic sewing and learned about some of the stitches on our machines. It was pretty straightforward, but I did learn a couple of things that I didn't know, so it was worth the time and money.
While we were in our class, another instructor was doing a make-up class for someone who had missed out on a class.. and this student could not have been more than 7 or 8 years old! She was the cutest little girl, and in 2 hours she had a shirt for herself almost finished. We were all so impressed and figured hey, if she can do it, so can we! I bought the jacket pattern that I will need for my Sewing 201 class. I'll purchase the material this weekend when my sister can go with me, since I will be making the jacket for her.
I think I will start working on the tote bag that I need to make for the winner of my giveaway on my other blog. I'll post pictures once it's finished.

Glad your class went well! Can't wait to see you new jacket!!
It is always good to start with the basics and work your way up. I can't wait to hear what you learn next. It was also good to hear about that little girl sewing away. It is a great thing for a young girl to learn.
I'm sure the class will help you a lot. Congrats on taking the leap and trying it. The pillowcase pillows are great!
